Production

The lignin is a complex polymer and it is an integral component of the woody parts of plants cells. It is obtained as the secondary raw material in the hydrolysis processes by removing polysaccharides from the shredded wood.

Lignin is non toxic, non radioactive and is chemically neutral, so there are few options of the lignin usage:

  • The processed lignin is used as biofuel or as raw material for pellets and briquettes production. When using lignin up to 20 percentage more energy is obtained than using wood.

  • The lignin being a glue of organic origin  is used as a binder for production of wood pellets or the straw briquettes.

  • The lignin is used as an organic material for the plants substrates. The lignin enriches soil composition thus providing nutritional substances to the plants.

Production process

After excavation the moist lignin is transported to the nearby plant. The modern plant is equipped with 4 drying lines. The lignin is screened, dried and prepared for use as biofuel.

In compliance with the environmental standards every drying line is equipped with the air purifying devices – cyclones. The purpose of cyclone  is to  reduce significantly the solid particles emission to the atmosphere.

The multichannel cyclone was designed by the researchers at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University department of Environmental Protection and the experimental researches were carried in their technology laboratory. The financial support for the implementation of this project was received from the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technologies (MITA) in accordance with the programme “Innovation Vouchers”.

The production capacity

  • Within one hour 1.5 tons of lignin is dried and prepared using one drying line.

  • The total production capacity of the company – 4.3 thousand tons of lignin prepared as biofuel within a month.
